Dear GracePoint Family,
4“…So about three thousand men went up there from the people. And they fled before the men of Ai, 5 and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six of their men and chased them before the gate as far as Shebarim and struck them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted and became as water.”– Joshua 7:4-5
It’s hard to stay on the mountain. Remember the childhood game where one person is on top or “king” of a hill or mound of dirt or something, and everyone else tries to knock them or pull them off?  In Trinidad there was a little chant or taunt that would be said:  “I’m the king of the castle and you’re the dirty rascal!”  Ah… fun times.
It’s hard to stay on top.  In the NFL there is a term for it, the “Super Bowl Curse”. Former manager Charley Casserly said a big reason is that for the defending Super Bowl Champions, “once the season starts, you become the biggest game on everybody’s schedule.”
Well you can rest assured that when we experience any “victory” in this Christian journey, the enemy doesn’t take it lightly!  We become a target, and he will try to pull us down as quickly and as hard as he can!  Look at God’s people, fresh off of the victory at Jericho, sin crept in and there was a resounding defeat at Ai.  They got cocky, they got careless, and they got crushed!  For them it was a sobering opportunity to learn a lesson.  What about you and me?  Let’s not get complacent or careless in victory.  Let us remain diligent to keep our eyes on The Master… and “hold the high ground” for His sake!
Always in His Grace,
Pastor Ben
